Growing up in Hawai’i has influenced many of my fashion choices. I lean into bright colors and bold prints as much as possible because wearing head-to-toe black there is a recipe to get real hot, real fast. My Hawai’ian roots also taught me to think about the sustainability of fashion and the longevity of each piece of clothing and accessory that I buy. Living on an island really gets you thinking about waste and how if you throw something away, it doesn’t just disappear.
A few years ago, I decided to start building a capsule wardrobe. The only problem was that every article I read about capsule wardrobes encouraged you to dress in only black, white, and neutrals as those always match each other. Listen, I love black and white and look great in those colors, but building a capsule wardrobe filled with neutrals left me sorely missing the bright hues I was used to donning. So I decided to accept the challenge and bring color into my capsule wardrobe - instead of focusing on neutral colors only, I started choosing pieces based on versatility and that could be worn multiple ways. Take, for instance, the fun, vibrant Aditi Wrap Dress.
I love this dress. It’s a bold print in a cut that is so flattering for every shape. I get compliments each time I wear it and the lightweight cotton is perfect for the warmer months. With a few simple accessories, this sustainable dress works in a multitude of ways. Here, I paired it with our Mandala Bag, as it’s the perfect summer accessory. I plan to bring this artisan-made purse with me to summer weddings, coffee dates with girlfriends, and everything in between.
The Mandala Bag is the perfect spring or summer bag for dresses or jeans.
Take on the Day
I work remotely, so I tend to throw everything I need for the day into a backpack and head to a coffee shop or a park for a picnic. I love to find dresses that go well with sneakers and this one is no exception! It can be dressed down easily by pairing it with the Lilia Backpack and Lauryn Sherpa Lined Jacket (this jacket runs a bit big - I sized down for the perfect fit).
The Lauryn Sherpa-Lined Jacket makes transitioning between seasons effortless.
The Lilia Backpack holds small laptops or large tablets, with room for all your daily items.
Layer It Up
Even though I live in Southern California, I do love to visit colder places, so I’m always looking for a “bundled up” way to style a dress. In this case, I opted for black as a layering neutral since it will go with everything. The Eliza Wrap Cardigan is so soft and so easy to throw on with a pair of boots (and tights if you’re really in cold weather!). I added the Soko Mini Mezi Boxed Hoops for a touch of shine.
Dress It Up
While the Aditi Dress is 100% cotton, it can absolutely be dressed up for a night out! I threw on my favorite heels and the bold Hai Hoops (my very favorite earrings!) to add an edgy-chic look to the dress as I went out to dinner. I completed the ensemble with the Eva Clutch.
This look can easily transfer from work to date night.
The Hai Hoops balance out the feminine dress, giving an edge to the ensemble.
The Eva Clutch is smooth and structured, adding a timeless look to any outfit.
Style as a Jacket
Because this is a wrap dress, it can also layer over an outfit and be worn open as a jacket! I opted for this over my yoga outfit because I like to have a little more coverage unless I’m in class. This makes it easy to run errands beforehand or head to brunch with friends afterward. I threw the dress over the Sam Tank and Lennon Leggings and then added the Zero Waste Headband to complete the look. Also - if you’re a yogi, you definitely want to check out the Leah Yoga Mat Strap - it’s so soft and makes it easy to carry my mat to class!
The Aditi Wrap Dress hanging open like a long jacket makes me feel more put together as I head to yoga.
The white Zero Waste Headband gives a little pop to the white stripes on the zebras - and it holds my hair back easily.
The Leah Yoga Mat Strap makes going from yoga to running errands effortless.
